Capsicum, Alma Paprika

Description: A Hungarian heirloom variety, they have a wonderful flavour, a hint of heat when dried and powdered. Plants are staked, they reach a height of 50cm. pH 5.5 to 6.0. The capsicum have a thick flesh, they start off a creamy colour then turn orange and when ripe, turn red.

Sow: Sown in modules indoors about the 20 August, germinated on a heat mat. Transplanted into larger pots when needed and kept in a warm sunny room indoors till warm enough to go into greenhouse.

Spacing: 400mm apart.

Harvest: Maturity about 16 to 26 weeks*

Care: Keep well watered.

Capsicum, Mini Sweet

Description: An abundant mini variety with a sweet flavour when red. Plants are staked, they reach a height of 80cm.

Sow: Sown in modules indoors about the 20 August, germinated on a heat mat. Transplanted into larger pots when needed and kept in a warm sunny room indoors till warm enough to go into greenhouse.

Harvest: Maturity about 16 to 26 weeks*

Care: Fed with seaweed & worm tea alternately once a week for the first 4 weeks. Keep well watered

13/03/2021 - picked first red capsicum.
12/04/2021 - picked the last capsicum, plant removed and composted.

2021/2022

10/11/2022 - transplanted seedlings into garden.
12/03/2023 - picked first red capsicum. (^ the Alma Paprika and the Mini Sweet capsicums have cross-pollinated so the mini sweet look like small Alma Paprika capsicum, the taste is wonderful)

Capsicum, Californian Wonder

Description: A large heirloom bell shaped variety, can be picked green or red. Plants are staked, they reach a height of up to 80cm.

Sow: Sown in modules indoors about the 20 August, germinated on a heat mat. Transplanted into larger pots when needed and kept in a warm sunny room indoors till warm enough to go into greenhouse.

Harvest: Maturity about 16 to 26 weeks*

Care: Keep well watered.

* Nearly all of the capsicums used in the kitchen are red, as they are much sweeter than the green ones.
