Raspberries
Rubus Idaeus
- All raspberries are grown in the original clay soil with some compost, cow and sheep manure mixed in
- Mid to late winter the raspberries are fed a small amount of sulphate of potash or chicken pellets and some homemade compost or leaf mould if available
- Woodchips are used for mulch
- Raspberries like a pH of between 5.5 and 6.8
- Netting is essential
Raspberry 'Tulameen'
- Description
- Of all the berries in the kitchen garden this raspberry is the most delicious! It is a summer fruiting raspberry with tiny spines.
Tulameen produces fruit on second year wood, floricanes. The canes can grow up to 1.8mt. Fruit very sweet and large. Fruit can be frozen. Needs a trellis, the one in the image above (taken in winter 2019 after pruning out the old canes that have fruited) is 1.75mts high and 2mts wide. - Uses

- First harvest - Dec 2018, fruit very sweet.
Second harvest - 7th Dec 2019 to Jan 2020, fruit slightly small probably due to the drought.
Third harvest - 29 Nov 2020 to 6 Jan 2021 Bumper harvest. Lost some due to rain. - Pruning
- Fruit is produced on previous years canes. After fruiting canes are cut down to ground level and the new canes are tied to the wires.
Raspberry 'Heritage'
- Description
- Heritage raspberries is an autumn fruiting raspberry. Produces on one year old canes (primocanes), the canes can grow up to 1.5mt. Needs a trellis, the one in the image above is 1.20mt high and 2.65mts wide, with 3 wires.

- A duel fruiting raspberry, Summer and Autumn . Produces on two year old canes (floricanes), the canes can grow up to 1.8mt. Needs a trellis.
