Silvanberry
After fruiting the silvanberry has been pruned back to four new canes.
The Silvanberry has lots of thorns on the canes and on the backs of the leaves, I use rose gloves when pruning.
Silvanberry - Rubus ursinus x hybrid
- Description
- Complex hybrid between Marion berries and a seedling cross of Pacific and Boysenberries. Produces fruit on second year wood, floricanes. Frost tolerant when dormant and self-fertile. Loses most of its leaves in the winter. Mulch in early spring with organic matter, eg wood chips, pine needles, sugar cane.
Fruit is a little tart, I have found it is best left on the vine till very ripe. Must be netted to protect from the birds. - Uses
