Rhubarb, Red Razz
Soil Preparation: Before planting lots of compost, cow & sheep manure, and a small amount of rock minerals and blood & bone were added. The soil drains well.
Planted: 15/10/2017 purchased 200mm pot from Bunnings
Harvest: Spring and early summer. First harvest January 2020
Care: Water well. A mix of homemade compost, cow manure and blood & bone are added in early spring. The rhubarb has been mulched well with 'Whoflungdung'. Divide in the winter when dormant if needed.
Uses: Desserts, pies, crumbles & jams
Other uses: Leaves are composted
Notes: Flowers stalks are removed when they appear. To allow good crown and root development the rhubarb was not harvested till 2020. When harvesting, stems are pulled with a bit of the base, they are not cut as this could allow disease into the plant.
